Throughout the retreat, we’ll focus not only on plein air painting but also on sharpening your watercolor techniques. Each day, we’ll explore how to find strong compositions and create powerful focal points, helping you to paint more confidently, whether in the field or working from photos and sketches. You’ll learn how to observe the landscape critically considering elements like the play of light and shadow, how to simplify complex scenes, and how to draw the viewer’s eye to the heart of your painting. In addition to painting on location, we’ll have time to work in the studio at our home away from home, La Cabana.
