Creating a Summer  Sketchbook: Visual Note Taking is your invitation to carve out a little creative space in the midst of a busy summer. Join watercolor artist Erica Qualey and mixed media artist/illustrator Ariana Killoran for a lighthearted, fun workshop focused on capturing the essence of the season—sunny moments, everyday scenes, and all the small bits of summer magic.

We talk about the challenges and benefits of sketching outside, and how to observe and work loosely and quickly to catch that sense of whimsy and spontaneity. You’ll learn how to take a quicker, more “sketchy” approach to watercolor, along with ways to incorporate other mediums that blend beautifully with it. Together we’ll explore fresh techniques each week to build observation skills, develop confident mark making, loosen up our approach, and recognize the visual elements that bring a composition to life.

Meeting virtually on Tuesday evenings from 6–8pm EDT, this workshop is designed to fit into real life. Even just 10–20 minutes of sketching a day can grow into a meaningful, personal collection—a treasure trove of summer moments captured through your own visual notes.

All classes will be recorded and available for replay the following day, along with all support images and information.
